Optical fiber undersea cable laying

An exciting day today on both sides of the Roseville bridge. A bunch of men, smartly dressed in fluorescent shirts were standing by.

Presently a barge with a big roll of cable turned up on the south side.

I asked if this meant that we'd soon have the NBN in our homes here in Killarney but the friendly Telstra man said that no, it's nothing that advanced.

The cable will be buried under 1.2m of mud to avoid damage from boats. I saw the plan of the waterway and there are already a considerable number of cables in place.
